Back! More about global warming
I apologize for the long hiatus, I was working on something at the office which took up all my spare time.
Slate has published an article about the effect of global warming on wine production here. Basically they say that wine production in (far) northern countries will become more viable as the planet warms.
This is not a shocking conclusion.
In other wine-related news, I recently returned from Rehoboth Beach, DE. On the way there I saw a sign for Teller's Wine Shop "Voted best in DE!" off the edge of a two-lane rural highway. Highway 404 for those who wish to look it up with Google Maps. On the way home I stopped by and was really pleasantly suprised. We're far afield from Arlington here (it's a 2.5 hour drive) but if you ever find yourself on the way to the beach and want some good wine I recommend stopping by. I didn't catch her name but the saleswoman was very knowledgable and steered me to some good deals. The one I'm trying right now is the Hop Kiln "Big Red" Russion River Valley blend. It's 1/2 cab, 1/3 pinot, 18% Valdiguie. What's a Valdiguie? I had to look it up - it is sometimes found as a component of Beaujelais. A description of the character of the grape is found here. I don't know if you'll be able to find Hop Kiln in a store near you - if you do see it, I recommend trying it out.
That's all for now, I hope to update more regularly after this month.
